Skiing in St. Anton
If you ask a ski area designer to design the perfect ski area, he would create St. Anton!
Although a ski holiday to St. Anton for many is the epitome of off-piste and freeride, one should not underestimate the slopes. It is also the terrain that makes off-piste interesting and it also benefits piste cutters. And if you have to get to the legendary city in a short period without snowfall, there are many challenges on the many cool slopes, which are difficult to drive in a week. Excursions over to Schröcken take most of a day and the possibilities over there also take time to explore. But especially Lech and Zürs are famous for their fantastic, wide slopes where you can just let loose and run for it.
Freeride (off-piste) in St. Anton
St. Anton's ski area has so many opportunities for off-piste that even though freeriders from all over the world make pilgrimages here, there is enough for everyone. An additional factor to this is that the area is one of those that gets the most snow in Europe. This is due to the central location in the Alps, which means that weather systems from all corners of the world deliver their load of white powder over St. Anton's legendary runs.
Names like Stuben, Schindlergrat and Hintere Rindl, give serious freeriders goosebumps. And besides them, there are an awful lot of other options.
If you are not familiar with the area, it is a good idea to hire a mountain guide and let yourself be guided around the fairytale area. But beware ... It's highly addictive.
